Non EU/EEA Citizens
For citizens of non-EU/EEA third country citizens, living and working in Hungary requires a residence permit and a work permit.
Residence Permits
All foreign nationals who wish to remain in Hungary for longer than 90 days must submit an application for a residence permit. To do this, nationals of countries who normally require a visa to enter Hungary must go to a Hungarian consulate in their home country and submit an application for a visa specifically for the purpose of entry to receive a residence permit, as well as the residence permit applicaton. The entry visa is good for 30 days.
Nationals of countries who do not require a visa to enter Hungary may submit an application from within Hungary. Certain other individuals may also apply for a residence permit from within Hungary:
- those who can prove exceptional situations, such as family reunification or medical treatment
- residing in Hungary for the purpose of "research"
